I have some more photos from yesterday's walk around the farm! I'm a photographer so there will be LOTS of photos cluttering this site. :)

Spring walks

Spring has finally arrived after a winter with many FEET of snow! Every day around 7ish I get the urge to wander around the farm aimlessly, it's when the sun is just about to hide behind the trees and the lighting is wonderful for pictures. The babies are getting so big; all they want to do is play and push things around.

The First Babies!

On February 17th, we welcomed our first baby which we named Skippy. Her mother, Katey, had her in the barn without us even knowing! I just happened to spot her while trying to catch one of the cows. Two days later April gave birth to our first baby bull, Nasty.
The babies spend most of the day sleeping, chasing each other around the field, and playing in the water buckets!

We're hoping to have a few more on the way!

Meet Shorty

This is Shorty.  He's our Mini-Hereford bull, don't let those tough horns fool you though- he's kind of sweet once he warms up to you.  All of the girls are pregnant with his babies (clearly he had a busy summer!) and they are due next calving season.

All of our cows are primarily grass fed and they receive a nice pile of homegrown alfalfa for dinner.  Mom & I sneak them a scoop of grain every once and awhile... just to keep them a little plump... a chunky cow is a happy cow, right?  At least that's what Mom thinks.......

Meet the Family

(Jeff & Diane at their surprise 25th Anniversary vow renewal)

RWV Land & Livestock South has been a family owned business since it's inception.  It is currently run by my father, Jeff Vogel.  He is hands on with everything in the business, from operating machinery, researching jobs, to even working on trucks in the shop when necessary. He may be the boss, but there's still grease on his hands from a hard days work.  But as they say, behind every great man, is a great woman- and that woman is my mother, Diane Vogel.  She runs essentially everything that comes into the doors of the RWV offices, from the paperclips to the paychecks.  If you have a question that one can't answer, the other most certainly has it.
Also around the Vogel yard is Jeff Jr., who can be found running the Agway feed store located in the retail space that was once a parts store and lifting heavy things around property, with either his hands or machinery.  Occasionally, when I'm not at one of my other random jobs (overfilling your proverbial work "plate" is a common Vogel trait), I am typically found following my father around the yard asking him to start the welding equipment up for me or trying to lure my mother into getting coffee.
Many of the employees that work for the business, have become part of our daily lives outside of work.  Whether they started as friends, or became friends through hiring, they are important parts of our lives.  It's how it's been since I was a kid playing in the office and still how it is till this day.  To work with us, often means becoming an honorary Vogel, and that's what makes RWV Land & Livestock way more than just a business- we're a family.
